How BTA Designs an Expedition
Expedition travel is not reserved for extreme adventurers, nor does exploring a remote destination require sacrificing comfort. The right expedition can work beautifully for wildlife lovers, photographers, curious travelers, active explorers and travelers simply looking for something profoundly different from a traditional luxury vacation.
We choose an expedition first for its itinerary and expedition team, then consider ship size, accommodations, service, activities and other onboard features. This is especially important in Antarctica, where wildlife priorities, season, landing opportunities, ship size and whether to cross or fly over the Drake Passage can fundamentally change the journey.
Activity level can also be highly personal. One traveler may want kayaking and challenging hikes while another prefers Zodiac exploration and gentler landings. Selecting the right operator and ship allows travelers to participate at a level that feels appropriate without losing the essence of the expedition.
An expedition can absolutely stand alone. When we add a land component, it should make the journey more meaningful rather than simply longer. The Galápagos, for example, can pair beautifully with mainland Ecuador or Peru when the combination reflects the traveler's interests.
